The best nutrition approach
“Please give me some tips for my diet”. As fitness professional I get this question thousand times from friends, relatives. And every time my reply is “You need to change your approach towards nutrition”.
There are lot of information on the internet and I know all of you know which food is clean and contains very high nutritional values. But, due to lot of information people always gets confused. And question remains the same. What should I eat?
In this article I will explain the approach towards NUTRITION no matter where you are from or who you are. Here are few points that will help you to make your nutritional choices clear.
Include things that you can eat for life time.
There is so much information on the internet what should you eat and which foods have great nutritional values. Before including a ‘super food list’ into your daily nutrition, please ask yourself a question, “Can I eat all this things my whole life regularly?” If the answer is yes then only go ahead otherwise find other foods that you can eat for whole life.
The ultimate truth of our body is that our bodies don’t like changes. If you change your food every other week your body will not be able to get all the nutrients of the food or digest it easily even if the food is with great nutritional values. If you eat all boiled food, green veggies, no sweets for a month you are feeling great at the end of the month. You lost more than 10 lbs and looking great. But from now you started eating what you were eating before a month. Now your body will add more fat than before and you will feel and look even worse than before.
The point is, if you can’t follow boiled food, no sugar, types of very restrictive diets for long time don’t jump into it for short term. It will make your digestive system and your metabolism weak.
Eat according to your goal
Just eating limited and eating clean is not enough. Make your goal clear in your mind. Here I am talking about long term goals. Write it down. Now start researching for it. Find type of foods and eating pattern which can help you to achieve your goal as soon as possible and stick to it.
Once you decide your goal you have to make action plan to achieve it (make your own nutrition program or hire a professional to do that for you). You need to eat according to your everyday physical activity. For example if you have heavy workout on a particular day you need to eat more. If it’s your rest day than you need you cut down your calories on that day and change ratio of your fat, carbs and protein. Increase your proteins and fats on rest days and decrease your carbs because you don’t need much carbs for energy on rest day but you need more protein and fat to recover your body for the next week.
Your nutrition should be according to your genetics and location.
This may sound bit new to some people but it’s true. Food of your parents and grandparents can help you reach your goal. Let me explain.
The reason behind this is our body’s nature of adaptation. Whatever your goal is if your body’s digestive track can digest and absorb most nutrients from the food then you will get the results you want. You have pre-installed ability to digest and get the most out of foods your parents and grandparents ate. No, I am not telling to eat crap if they were eating it. Find all the clean food they were regularly eating and include it into your daily nutrition.
Similarly, fruits and veggies which are grown locally will give more benefit to then the other imported super foods. I have adapted this approach from well known nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar. She wrote some great books on weight loss, nutrition and thyroid. All books are must read for women who want to know more about nutrition and lifestyle.
Whether you are vegetarian or non-vegetarian or vegan you can achieve your goal.
Believe me it’s the truth. Don’t think if you are vegan or vegetarian you can’t achieve your goals. We have a lottt of great food choices in this world. There are lots vegetarian ifbb pro bodybuilders out there (Google it). All you have to do is just decide your way and start taking action.
Sum it all up
I know you are finding your best diet program everywhere on internet and magazines. Before putting it into your daily routine check if it is from above listed points. If yes I guarantee you that you will have results you have never imagined.
