9 Best Equipment For Your Home GYM
What is your 2018’s fitness resolution? Well, if it’s about being regular in gym or exercise then this article can help you. I know so many of you gave up on your fitness resolutions because of so many excuses. I have tried to cut down some of them in this article.
Going to the gym every day can be difficult for many busy personals in their hectic schedule. In this article, I am going to give you a list of 9 best fitness equipments. And, most important exercises you will be able to do with those equipments.
1. An Olympic Barbell and plates

Olympic barbell
With this two of equipment, you can do almost all type of strength training exercises. Below is the list of exercises which you can do with this.
Lower body
- Back squat
- Front squat
- Deadlift
- Barbell Lunges
- Good mornings
Upper body
- Standing military press
- Power snatch
- Power clean
- Barbell rows
- Bench press (if you have bench)
Full body
- Squat cleans
- Snatch
- Barbell thrusters
- Turkish get ups
I have listed my favourite exercises only. Though there are many others also.
2. Adjustable bench
This is the most important thing you can buy for your home gym. If you have a bench in your home gym you won’t be worried about waiting for your turn in the commercial gym (this is the main headache in many commercial gyms only 1 or 2 benches).
Below is the list of exercises that you can do on the bench.
- Of course first one is bench press (all variations)
- Box squat
- Step ups
- Elevated lunges
- Elevated push ups
- Box jumps
3. Squat rack
This is the most essential piece of equipment for squats and military press. Adjustable squat racks (see the pic) can be used also for bench press. Though, I suggest you to buy this even if you don’t currently lift heavy. Rack is the most important equipment for most of the basic and foundational movements but lots of commercial gyms don’t even have it!
No matter if you are a beginner or advanced bodybuilder or powerlifter or crossfitter, you’ll need a squat rack. So don’t forget this most important equipment!
4. Pull up bar
This is the second most important piece of equipment for your home gym. Pull ups are most basic and foundational exercise. I recommend wall mounted pull up bar here because if you have high ceiling, you’ll be able to do muscle ups there in future.
You’ll also be able to do lots of calisthenics stuff life front lever, back lever, muscle ups. Hanging leg raise and knee raise for abs and a lot more. See the picture of a wall mounted pull up bar above so you’ll get the idea of how actually it looks.
5. Dumbbells according to your capacity
As like barbells and plates, dumbbells are also one of the most basic thing you’ll need in your home gym. Unlike barbell, dumbbell gives you a unilateral effect. Means you’ll have to lift equally from both hands.
All the exercises that you do in barbell should also be practiced in dumbbell also to engage different muscle groups. You can also use dumbbell for some accessory work if you are into powerlifting or Olympic lifting.
6. Gymnastic rings
This is the most compact and most powerful thing you can buy for your home gym. Though it’s very difficult to perform on rings but I highly recommend it because this thing will make you REAL STRONG seriously. There are beginner exercises that you can start and learn through higher level on the rings.
Because rings are unstable, it puts your muscle in the immense amount of stress to control it. This single piece of equipment is worth more than all other fancy equipments in big box gyms. If you want to make your upper body strong, you don’t want to miss this.
You can also use TRX suspension trainers if you want a little more versatility. you can hang it anywhere and it doesn’t hurt your skin. Especially if you are a begginer, TRX can be your best friend.
7. Plyometric Boxes

Wooden plyometric boxes

Metal plyometric boxes
Plyometric boxes are commonly used in crossfit gyms and functional training gyms but they are really been ignored by many conventional gyms. Plyometric boxes are useful in many areas. Ability to jump, ability to step up, any type of support work etc. There are so many things you can work on and improve if you have Boxes.
They are available in so many sizes but for a home gym, I suggest 24 inches and 36 inches boxes.
8. Skipping rope
Just 10 mins of skipping rope can give you awesome cardiovascular benefits. It will improve the speed of your legs, your reaction time and your synchronization skills.
There are so many artistic rope jumping skills are there which you can learn onwards and improve yourself. It’s not just a cardio thing. It’s fun. So don’t miss this little but very important thing to include in your home gym.
9. Parallettes
Parallettes is great bodyweight strength training equipment. From beginner L-sit to advanced handstand push-ups, you can do so many things that will make your body REAL STRONG not just aesthetic.
Parallettes and gymnastics rings are the tools that will train your body’s unknown muscles which you won’t be able to do with any other equipment.
